GOP congressional hopeful Doug Collins notched the endorsement of the state Capitol’s top lawmaker this week.
Georgia Speaker David Ralston attended a Fannin County GOP meeting on Monday to offer his support to Collins in the ninth district’s five-way primary. But the endorsement failed to generate any press attention until the Atlanta Journal Constitution belatedly caught the news from a north Georgia news website.
“I’m here tonight not to tell you who to support, but to tell you who I’m supporting and why,” Ralston said at the event, according to fetchyournews.com’s scoop. “I’m supporting Doug Collins from Hall County.”
Ralston also subtly rapped ex-radio talker Martha Zoller, chief rival to the Gainesville legislator.
“It’s going to take more than someone just talking about something up there,” he told the assembled GOPers.
But Collins, his colleague in the House and Governor Nathan Deal’s chief legislative powerbroker, has experience and “knows how to pass legislation.”
