Police called to Erick Erickson’s Georgia home after false shooting claim

Bibb County sheriff’s deputies arrived Sunday night at the home of ex-Macon City Councilman and top conservative pundit Erick Erickson after an anonymous prankster phoned emergency dispatch with a false report.

“Tonight, my family was sitting around the kitchen eating dinner with sheriffs deputies pulled up in the driveway,” Erickson wrote from his perch atop conservative RedState.com. “Someone called 911 from my address claiming there had been an accidental shooting.”

He said the experience could have been more traumatic had he not been anticipating the bogus call and warned local police.

“Luckily it was two sheriffs deputies who knew and I had already, last week, advised the Sheriff’s Department to be on the lookout for something like this.”

Another Macon-area family fell victim to the prank–dubbed “swatting” by authorities and those who perpetrate it–in March, when anonymous persons hacked a video game console to obtain personal information and stage the fake plea for emergency police assistance.
