Ga. KKK group wants to ‘adopt’ highway

Georgia transportation officials are reviewing a new request by a Ku Klux Klan-affiliated group to “adopt” a one-mile stretch of north Georgia roadway.

If granted, the white supremacist group would earn state recognition for their clean-up efforts. If denied, however, the state will likely land itself in a First Amendment lawsuit.

The Georgia Department of Transportation’s only other option: shutter the 23-year-old Adopt-A-Highway program for all.
