Georgia GOP summons troops for Price race
The Georgia Republican Party asked Peach State partisans Wednesday to pepper the phone lines of congressional lawmakers with appeals to support Rep. Tom Price’s bid for GOP conference chairman.
“Please call your congressman–and encourage your friends and family to do the same–and ask them to support Congressman Tom Price for House Republican Conference Chairman,” an email from the party reads.
Its call to arms noted that Price, who will square off sometime today with Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers for the number-four leadership post, has already been endorsed by Rep. Paul Ryan, conservative advocacy group FreedomWorks and a handful of prominent political commentators.
The contest has revealed a number of fault lines in the caucus, splitting colleagues along regional (McMorris Rodgers hails from Washington State), gender (her ascension would put the only women in the party’s top leadership ranks) and ideological (Price is among the most conservative House lawmakers, while his opponent falls somewhere in the middle of the pack) factions.
