First quarter fundraising numbers for the crowded field of Republicans running for Senate in Georgia are beginning to trickle in.
According to ZPolitics, “sources close” to Rep. Phil Gingrey say the Marietta congressman will report a haul of $326,000, with a cash on hand figure not yet available.
Such a figure would mark a substantive uptick. His campaign raised shy of $138,000 to close out 2013, but still entered the year with over $2 million cash on hand. Just this week Gingrey announced an ad buy in the Atlanta media market through the May 20th primary, totaling around $700,000.
Though the figure is an improvement, he was still slightly outpaced by Rep. Paul Broun. According to the AJC, his campaign raised $345,000 in the first quarter. That’s also an improvement; his campaign raised $248,000 to close out last year.
However, Broun entered April with only $230,000 cash on hand, far short of the figure needed to make a substantive ad buy as the campaigns enter the homestretch.
